A recent addition to the collection. Two original plates from Histoire Naturele circa 1790.

This exquisite copperplate engraving is from Histoire Naturele by the Cmte. de Buffon. It was published in Paris from 1749 to 1804. This plate dates c.1780. The paper is watermarked, hand laid and of excellent quality. It is an off white/cream color. The plate is blank verso. Plate size is 8.5 x 11in. Any shadows are just that and do not appear in scan. The images are crisp and dark! They are much darker than they appear in the scan. The copper plate engraving of this work is of superior quality! These engravings are truely rare! Because these were all printed by hand some of the images may not have been printed square to the paper. Many of my plates from this work have moisture stains to top left and right edges. Otherwise clean.
