The New Favorite Ranchu Tub

Just bought 5 of these tubs which were lightly used by a pet store for fish or bunnies and guinea pigs. They are 70x47x23 inch, 341 gallon free standing pond by Leguna. Well built of heavy duty hdpe/hdpp.
The label says 195 gallon but they are actually 341 gallons.
Here are the tank details:

Pond Fish

These fish are from a one acres retention pond of goldfish and koi in the coast range at approximately 1000 foot elevation. It is situated in a draw with the hills to the south. Rushes surround the pond at the water line and up the main draw and a smaller side draw to the three springs that feed the pond. No pictures because every thing was in the clouds and the rain was pouring. Fortunately it was warm because I was up to my knees catching fish in a smaller holding pond for three hours in the pouring rain. It was heaven.
120 commons (60 in this bowl)
25 Sarassas and Blue Bellies

Five Lightly Used Laguna Ponds PT796

Approximately 6x4x2 black molded ponds. Much better suited to goldfish than the rabbits and guinea pigs that were housed in them at a pet store. Oh yeah and under the pond is my 200 gallon insulated bonar box with about 200 large common and sarassas.

External standpipe

This is a 2 inch external standpipe for a row of 5x 275 gallon pallet tanks (see: Adding Capacity). The tanks are plumbed out their bottom drain to a 2 inch main then to this stand pipe to set water level and on to filtration via a 50 foot 3 inch line. With the valve closed the water flows up and around setting the water level. Open the valve and the tanks drain. Assembled with repurposed parts (hence the extra couples).  Installed to the line with fernco couples.

Two and a half gallon box filter

Same filter with a 2.5 gallon Drum Bowl.

Loaded and ready to filter.

Detail showing the heat shaped upright tube fitting over the sponge filter base.

One gallon box filter

Sponge filter base with extended airlift tube a gallon jar and sone lava rock.

Used a standard uplift tub heated with a torch so it would fit over the base of the filter.
Put the core into the jar.
Fill with Lava Rock and Coral Pieces for a bit of hardness and buffering.
flowing.

Blue Phoenix Eggfish

Hong kong Ocean Park goldfish zoo.

This is where the US fish came from.

Tub Tops

Cut four feet off each of the 12 footers to form a 4x8 and a 4x4 lid.

Placed the plastic on the tubs and placed the cross braces on top to mark their location.

Clap the cross brace to the sawhorse, line up the reference marks and screw the polycarbonate roofing to the pressure treated 2x2 cross brace with ceramic coated deck Nate screws.

Finished. If there is ever threat of snow I'll put a few canes going from brace to brace in one of the corrugations.

Oishi female enjoying duckweed

She swims from corner to corner eating duckweed and daphnia that accumulates there by the current generated by the airstone in the center of the tank.

Goldfish Salad

Fall is a good time to be a goldfish. Several types of live food cultured in one tub.
